THE pounds 86million Eden Project at Bodelva, near St Austell in Cornwall, opened in March 2001 on the site of an old clay quarry and has since become one of Britain's most popular tourist attractions with 1.8million visitors per year. Occupying a site the size of 35 football pitches, this giant global garden was the brainchild of former pop music entrepreneur Tim Smit, who commissioned Nicholas Grimshaw the architect behind the Eurostar Terminal at Waterloo in London to bring it to life.
