NEW YORK -- Prastara is a men's cologne with a past in Europe. If Doug Hopkins has his way, it will have a future in the U.S.

Hopkins will take his first step toward that goal the first week of November with the launch of the scent at Henri Bendel here.

An American freelance fashion photographer, Hopkins began his transformation into a fragrance entrepreneur more than a year ago, when he discovered Prastara, a citrus-based scent, in Poland. Prastara means "ancient" in Russian, said Hopkins.
