This article examines "runs" of the vowels a, e, i, o, and u, in words and phrases. An example is proeuious (modem previous), which is counted as a run of six vowels. To save space, the level of detail given diminishes as the number of examples increases. Where the words themselves are not given, the results are unverified, and it may be assumed that a few instances will be of poor transliterations, or be otherwise unacceptable. This will not greatly affect the conclusions.
In selecting examples, priority as usual has been given to words over phrases, ordinary nouns over proper nouns, familiar words over obscure words, solid words over hyphenated ones, and so on. ...
