The collapse of the golf dome in Clay in 2002 was not caused by the weight of snow. Manager Sean Hynes said it collapsed because a snow plow operator tore a 16-foot gash in it. Hynes said he and his partners had to bring the manufacturers from Canada to prove to the town that it would not collapse under the weight of snow.
