As I plow through the slush of another Detroit winter, my mind drifts back to an early spring snowstorm last year.
And I wonder about the industry's revival of rear-wheel-drive cars.
On the morning I recall, I decided to stay off the freeways. Taking surface streets through the city, I fell in behind a guy driving a BMW 5 series.
It was a revealing experience. The 5 series, generally acclaimed as one of the finest-handling machines on the road, was having a terrible time negotiating the streets, which were slick with freshly fallen snow.
