Not everyone will love her repertory, but nobody can say that Cecilia Bartoli is not the most compelling mezzo of her generation. For proof, witness Friday evening's Celebrity Series recital with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at Symphony Hall.
There were some empty seats in the upper reaches of our wonderful shoebox, but from the applause entr'actes, the standing ovations at the end and the aura of appreciation that seemed palpable all evening long, there was no doubt this was one special evening.
