The Hop skips and jumps; landlord says it's gone

The Hop flopped.

At least, that's the word around Mission Beach.

The '50s-theme restaurant is set to follow its predecessor Belmont's At The Beach on the way to oblivion.

The Hop owes landlord Belmont Park Associates $94,582, more than three months rent, according to documents filed in San Diego County Superior Court late last month.

The Hop's April 24 opening drew television coverage galore.

The restaurant, owned primarily by Copeland Brothers Inc. of Laguna Hills, was given a five-day pay or quit notice on Aug. 16, according to court records. The notice expired, but ...
