The general trout season in Oregon doesn't open until April 24, but nearly 20 percent of all the "catchable" trout produced by the state's hatchery systems will be released well before that date.
In Lane County, the season for catch-and-keep trout fishing begins to heat up in February, when big tank trucks begin making weekly runs hauling rainbow from hatcheries to area ponds and reservoirs and to coastal lakes.
This week, for example, 1,250 fish are being released today in both Creswell Pond and Cottage Grove Pond. Last week, trout trucks stopped at Junction City Pond and at Eugene's Alton Baker Park. Next week it ...
