CHRISTOPHER Rodrigues, chief executive of Bradford & Bingley, is waving farewell to the Yorkshire mortgage bank to take the top job at Visa International in San Francisco. It is a great personal coup for Rodrigues, who no doubt finds the idea of California sunshine more alluring than Bingley in winter.
He will earn several times his present [pounds sterling]730,000a-year pay package. But he leaves an uncertain legacy for 1.2m small shareholders. His departure is also likely to unleash a fresh round of takeover speculation at B&B, with Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland touted as predators.
