Prior Lake is hoping a new grocery store can stem the loss of businesses and customers to the chain restaurants and huge stores just over the city limits in Savage.
While Prior Lake Mayor Jack Haugen acknowledges "big box" retailers near the intersection of County Rd. 42 and Hwy. 13 are convenient for residents, they can cause problems for his city's commercial areas.
Prior Lake's only grocery store, County Market, closed recently when the owners invested in a new Cub Foods in Savage. Now the store's former manager, Dave Chromy, hopes to open a new grocery in Prior Lake.
