The early shots didn't fall and the patented scoring run never came.
But the Sheldon girls basketball team still found a way to sneak past visiting North Medford on Saturday to earn a second consecutive trip to the OSAA Class 4A state tournament with a 49-42 victory.
The third-ranked Irish, who improved to 24-2 overall, will open the new slimmed-down eight-team tournament at the University of Portland's Chiles Center against Jefferson at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
