While Onondaga County officials see off-track betting as a new source of cash, some in surrounding counties worry about a new source of competition.
During his State of the County speech Monday, County Executive Nicholas Pirro announced his proposal to allow OTB parlors in Onondaga County. Pirro estimated the parlors could bring the county up to $3 million a year because participating counties get a share of the betting.
Several Onondaga County residents who have to drive into neighboring counties to bet on horse races greeted the proposal with enthusiasm Tuesday.
