GLEN ROSE, Texas _ Steve Conrad used to be a typical bird dog man. A dog's place, thought Conrad, was in the field and in the kennel. The North Carolina native, who has hunted birds from Canada to Florida, never wanted a dog in his house.
Nowadays, one of the world's most unusual bird dogs sleeps between Conrad and his wife, Evin. In the hunting vehicle, the dog, named Doodlebug, often rides in Conrad's lap. Conrad is considering having Doodlebug insured for $50,000.
