I thoroughly enjoyed Scott Alarik's feature on family music in your Winter 2004 issue, but think that some of the great classics should have been included along with the current examples of "child friendly" songs.
The most obvious example would be American Folk Song's for Children by Mike and Peggy Seeger on Rounder Records. With 90+ songs and based on the book of the same name by Ruth Crawford Seeger, this collection is an encyclopedia for folk song fanatics no matter what their age may be. This is an absolute must for any family.
Another fine choice might be Camp Songs' as sung by 6 to 11 year-olds and accompanied by Pete Seeger and Erik Darling. ...
