With this new collection, June Tabor has returned to traditional sources with a set of dramatic ballads filled with those great old plots of death, murder, lust, and revenge. Can't go wrong with that stuff!
Tabor's voice carries most of the weight and conveys the drama and emotional import. And it's a voice that stands apart from all the conventionally pretty sopranos found in British folk music. Tabor has a deep alto and doesn't decorate much; her singing style has an inherent stark drama.
