Living somewhere between Karl Malone's departure and Karl Malone's return, riding a post-All-Star break momentum that has renewed their championship spirit, the Lakers made it 54 seconds into Friday night's game against Seattle before the dark clouds gathered again.
Kobe Bryant injured his right shoulder for the third time since April, left with 11:06 left in the first quarter and did not return. The Lakers held off the Seattle SuperSonics 99-91 for their ninth victory in 11 games, but their fate is once again hazy, with 21 games left and Bryant ailing.
