* Civil War (page 3). The Civil War was a conflict between the Northern states (the Union) and Southern states (the Confederacy) from 1861 to 1865. After Abraham Lincoln became president in 1860, seven Southern states seceded from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America with Jefferson Davis as president.
