Mar. 9--New Cumberland native Bob Brinley and his son, Zach, got their start in the Caribbean rum-blending business in dramatic fashion, racing through a South American jungle in an armed, two-car convoy.
After they landed on a remote airstrip outside Georgetown, Guyana, in August 2002, guards spirited them to the headquarters of Demerara Distillers Ltd., where they learned the reason for all the security. Local rogues had been kidnapping businessmen and holding them for ransom, Bob Brinley said.
