Mar. 9--ANDOVER, Mass. -- Raytheon Co. yesterday unveiled a new mobile missile defense system specifically designed to intercept ballistic missiles at high altitudes.
The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Radar, built at Raytheon's Andover plant and designed in Bedford and Sudbury, is the first ground-based missile defense designed specifically to detect and destroy ballistic missiles.
