Attorneys for Madison and Dane County say a proposed state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage could threaten domestic partner benefits for city and county employees.
"This legislation would force local governments that have made the decision to treat their employees fairly to reverse that decision," County Executive Kathleen Falk said in a statement. "It is harmful to our employees, citizens and their families."
The state Senate is expected to vote on the amendment today.
