In a series of events reminiscent of the 2000 presidential election in Florida, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants Thursday set out to recount ballots for its national officers.
The union, representing 25,000 flight attendants at American Airlines Inc., saw its current president, John Ward, win re-election early Thursday morning by a margin of just seven votes out of more than 15,000 returned.
The razor-thin margin triggered an automatic hand recount of every ballot, which started around 2 p.m. EST Thursday, said George Price, a union spokesman. Results weren't expected until late Thursday.
