WASHINGTON -- Exxon Mobil has been able to deliver higher downstream returns compared to its peers over recent years due to a combination of operating efficiency, capital management and "self help" margin improvement measures.
While most of the attention from Exxon Mobil's strategy session last week centered around the upstream, where investors are anticipating an era of growth after three years of declining production, Exxon Mobil also offered clues about why it is the undisputed leader in downstream financial performance and outlined growth initiatives primarily aimed at the Asia-Pacific market (OD Mar.11,p1).
