AMHERST - Though the UMass hockey team found itself parched for scoring throughout the second half of the season, the goals flowed like water for the Minutemen last night.
UMass-Lowell put up the first score of the evening, but the Minutemen rattled off the next five en route to a 6-3 victory in Game 1 of the best-of-three, first-round Hockey East playoff series before 3,544 at the Mullins Center.
Three second-period goals broke it open for third-seeded UMass (17-11-6), which shook off the doldrums of an 0-6-1 stretch to conclude the regular season and can wrap up the series with a Game 2 victory tonight.
