Mar. 13--Drug maker Novartis AG confirmed Friday that it is exploring a merger with rival Aventis -- a blockbuster European deal that would send major ripples through New Jersey.
"No decision has been taken yet whether or not to pursue such a transaction," Novartis, based in Basel, Switzerland, said in a statement issued in response to a request from market authorities in France, the home of Aventis. High-level executives at both companies were said to have discussed a merger.
