Introduction

Over the past two decades, microwave technology has slowly made inroads into the medical marketplace. In the 1960s, diathermy was used for therapeutic heating of tissue beneath the skin surface. In the 1980s, microwave heating devices were introduced commercially for use in the treatment of cancer (hyperthermia).
