A law firm that uses direct mail solicitations to potential clients must be careful about listing the areas the firm practices in on the envelope as that might reveal information about potential clients' legal problems.
The Board of Governors, at its recent Tallahassee meeting, voted to uphold a Standing Committee on Advertising finding that a law firm violated Bar advertising rules in a mailing to a potential client.
The mailing sought to represent the possible client in an intellectual property dispute, and the envelope contained the firm's logo that said it handled patent, trademark, and copyright matters.
