Ten-year-old Joseph Malave attends ah after-school program offered by the Henry Street Settlement at his school in New York City. "Most days we spend the first hour doing homework, then we do an activity," says Joseph, a fifth grader. "There are different activities on different days. I'm on the basketball team. Today, we've got a game against another school."
This after-school program serves about three hundred children. Erica, who works with Joseph, explains, "There's also gym. And drama and art. We have classes in the martial arts, dance, and fabric.
