Kevin Simpson likes to think of his company as the tortoise in the tortoise-and-hare story. The slow and steady type plugs along with a single focus while the faster guy runs around and loses steam.

Simpson is president and COO of Wireless Zone, a cellular retailer that started the race in 1988 with one store in Wethersfield, Conn.
