Mar. 16--WASHINGTON -- Amid mounting pressure from politicians, private industry and foreign governments, the Agriculture Department on Monday announced it would vastly increase the number of cattle tested for mad cow disease to determine its prevalence in the U.S. cattle herd.
The announcement comes as more than 50 countries continue to ban imports of U.S. beef since a single case of mad cow disease was discovered in Washington state in late December. It comes as a Kansas beef company has floated the idea of voluntarily testing all of its cows for the disease in order to win ...
