The old adage, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again," is running strong these days at Kellog, thanks to the promotion of Arnold Langbo.

Some predicted Langbo was on his way out less than a decade ago. But, after a short-lived tenure heading the company's domestic division, the 54-year-old proved his critics wrong when he became president and CEO in December. He's also the heir apparent to succeed chairman William LaMothe, who plans to retire at year end.

Analysts say Langbo has the credentials to move Kellogg forward. "Arny might lead in a more soft-spoken way than Bill LaMothe, but he'll lead nonetheless," says analyst John McMillin of ...
