In the last couple of years, Springfield Armory has introduced a number of new pistols. Some of them--the XD series, for example, and the Robbie Leatham TGO signature 1911s--have gotten so much glaring publicity in the shooting world that some others seem to have been lost in the shadows. One such is the Ultra Compact in 9mm.
The "chopped and channeled" 1911 auto goes back to mid-20th century. Army gunsmiths made them for General Officers of that branch of the armed services.
