Mar. 19--PALMETTO, Fla. -- The little island created from muck during a dredging project has turned into an environmental success story.
A regional business group on Thursday told the Manatee County Port Authority that the the port's development of a 60-acre spoil island into a picturesque wildlife sanctuary in 2002 has won high honors.
Previously, Florida Audubon, a partner in the project, praised officials of Port Manatee and the Gulf Stream Natural Gas System LLC for committing to the $7.3 million good work.
