The final numbers are in for trade in milk and dairy products for 2003. Now comes the arduous task of trying to quantify both imports and exports and assess the effect on U.S. supply and demand. This is a difficult task since the U.S. imports many dairy products, as well as non-dairy products with a significant quantity of dairy components. These imports are used for not only dairy processing but for other food processing as well. They also may or may not substitute with domestically produced dairy products.
