For many chemical process plants that use crystallization, opportunities for improvement exist. In operating plants and during process startups, unusual behavior within a crystallization system is a fairly common occurrence. In fact, in many existing operations, ongoing problems go unsolved because of the complex nature of the crystallization chemistry, and problems associated with the selection, operation and maintenance of the crystallization equipment.
Many crystallization problems are not adequately solved because a proper chemical engineering approach is not used. The aim of this article is to review some of the available chemical engineering solutions.
