In a statement put out after the market closed on Thursday, the US Department of Justice basically told the European Commission to back off its aggressive antitrust stance against Microsoft.
Suggesting that the EC was on the wrong track, the DOJ said its controversial settlement with Microsoft "provides the appropriate framework for marketplace competition in this important sector" and cautioned the EC that both agencies "have a shared interest in avoiding divergent enforcement approaches."
