Mar. 20--Mecca Farms' 1,980-acre grove in northern Palm Beach County certainly isn't the first agricultural land here slated for development, and it won't be the last.
The urbanization of Florida farmland that has been going on for decades is expected to continue until agricultural land totally disappears from coastal areas in the most-populated counties.
University of Florida researcher John Reynolds predicts an estimated 2.8 million acres of Florida farmland, undeveloped land and commercial forests will probably be consumed by sprouting suburbs by the year ...
