At least 51 soldiers based at Fort Carson or who had strong ties to Colorado have died in Iraq in the past year. Through the eyes of parents, spouses, children, neighbors and friends, these are the lives behind the names and faces.
Army Spc. Jose L. Mora
* Hometown: Bell Gardens, Calif.
* Unit: 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division
* Died: Oct. 24, 2003. He was one of two soldiers killed in a mortar attack in Samarra, Iraq.
* Age: 26 Jose Mora loved war movies. One of his favorites was We Were Soldiers.
