Mar. 21--The crowd of companies that flocked to St. Charles County over the last decade are scrambling to deal with a growing problem -- a lack of affordable houses for their moderate income workers.
Ironically, the problem comes as a consequence of the county's recent success.
Two decades ago, cheap and open land ignited a housing boom that made St. Charles the fastest-growing county in Missouri. Now, with land more scarce and house prices skyrocketing, needed workers are being priced out of the housing market.
