I am hunting in the Kafue area of Zambia, in a remote camp called Mubelezi, after the river on which it is situated. To get there, we drove seven hours from Lusaka, passing no towns and no villages of any size--only army checkpoints and tsetse control posts. Our hunting block (a Game Management concession) is leased from the government by Zambia Safaris. It covers 2,500 square miles.

My hunter is John Knowles. He is one of the best professionals with whom I've ever hunted. Although I am three or four inches taller than John and ten years younger, it doesn't matter how fast I walk--I am always five it ten yards behind him and the head tracker, Shemu.
