It takes a special someone to play a suburban teen tormented by a 6-foot-tall apocalyptic rabbit.
Director Marcus Stern knew it would be a challenge to cast the lead for his stage adaptation of the 2001 cult film "Donnie Darko" last fall.
"The big issues for Donnie were finding someone who could embody the sense of a young man lost in the world who the audience can like, but can be equally dangerous, so we can go on the dangerous journey and search for love," Stern said.
The man for the job was 24-year-old Will Peebles, a second-year student with the American Repertory Theatre's Moscow Art Theatre Institute.
