THE COMBAT PHASE of the war in Iraq was hardly over when authors began pounding their computers to produce books about the desert dust-up.
They range from hurried reprises such as a Dan Rather/CBS quickie to a glossy picture book about the U.S. Army at war.
Here's a quick run-down, in no particular order, on several of these books:
"The March Up: Taking Baghdad with the 1st Marine Division" by Bing West and Maj. Gen. Ray L. Smith, USMC (Ret.) (Bantam, $24.95) is remarkable in its depth and detail. West and Smith traveled with the Marines but were able to range from unit to unit, rather than being "embedded." With ...
