Perhaps, in the final analysis, it WAS just luck.
Perhaps, as former defense secretary Robert McNamara maintains in the chilling documentary "The Fog of War" (now at the Hilldale Theatre), the Cuban missile crisis could just as easily have had a catastrophic ending -- with tens of millions of people being killed-- as a positive one.
