Filippelli has assembled a collection of well reported descriptions of 254 conflicts. The volume includes a general chronology of U.S. labor relations events moving from an indentured servants' rebellion in 1636 through the 1989 Eastern airlines strike. The conflict description section of the volume is preceded by a glossary of industrial relations terms and laws as well as a brief bibliography of significant works in labor history. Entries were produced by 49 contributors, including labor historians, graduate students, and trade union members. The volume concludes with a thorough index.
