The statistics on the childhood obesity epidemic in America are sobering. A child who is significantly overweight at age six to eight has an 80% chance of being obese as an adult, contributing to health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Dr. Don LaGrone is a Coast pediatrician with a particularly strong concern about childhood obesity.
"American children are increasingly adopting unhealthy lifestyles," said Dr. LaGrone. "They are eating too much and exercising too little. Over 30% of American school children are overweight. One out of every four are 40% or more overweight. This represents an increase of 54% since 1960."
