The blowing wind, cold temperatures and wet snow could not take the smile off of Dennis Alley's face Sunday, even though it was the first weekend of spring.
It also was the 10th annual Maple Weekend across the state, and Alley was only too proud to show off weeks of hard work in making fresh maple syrup.
"I've been doing this for four years and we've had two nice (weekends) and two like this," said Alley, a sophomore at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School and a member of the school's Future Farmers of America. "Things can happen at any time. You just have to know how to counter it and take it in stride."
