Two out of three businesses in Onondaga County say they would rather see the local sales tax increase than see the county raise property taxes or drastically reduce services, according to a survey released Monday by the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.
The survey also found that nearly 90 percent of the businesses that responded back a plan to use most of the extra money from the proposed sales tax increase - $65 million to $68 million expected for next year - to pay off the county's Medicaid bill rather than share more of the new revenue with the city of Syracuse, said chamber President David Cordeau.
