DUPAGE COUNTY CIRCUIT Judge Bonnie Wheaton recently ruled that Biasco Piano Company's advertising violated Illinois deceptive trade practices and ordered the Chicago area piano retailer to cease and desist immediately. Retail advertising throughout the piano industry, from going out of business sales to college promotions to discount price offerings, has routinely tested truth-in-advertising statutes. What makes the ruling unusual is that the case against Biasco was brought by five competing retailers: Cordogan's Pianoland; Hendricks Piano; Karnes Music Co.; Ortigara's Musicville; and Pickle Piano.
