DORTMUND, Germany _ When U.S. ladies bronze medalist Jenny Kirk said she held it together in Wednesday's qualifying round, she meant it.
Kirk, who trains at the Onyx in Rochester Hills, averted a wardrobe disaster at the World Figure Skating Championships when the snaps holding her costume together came undone about a minute into her long program.
Fortunately for her, Kirk's backup plan kicked in: The straps that held the costume securely behind her neck had been stitched together minutes before she competed.
"She fought through that program really well," said Richard Callaghan, her coach.
