EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. _ Eddie Sutton had warned everyone what it would be like. Looking at film of Pittsburgh, the Oklahoma State coach said the Panthers reminded him of the teams he played for under the legendary Henry Iba in the 1950s.
Those old Oklahoma A&M teams "massaged the ball," as Sutton put it, keeping control, shortening the game. They also must have had some sharp elbows.
