BRAZIL's minister of transport, Mr Anderson Adauto, said that the government plans to invest Reais 7.47 billion ($US 2.6 billion) in railway infrastructure improvements during the next four years. Adauto says that under the terms of the existing concession contracts, these improvements are the responsibility of the government. However, it is keen to attract funding from the private sector through public-private partnerships (PPPs).
Lines in very poor condition will have priority. This includes upgrading the Araraquara--Santos line and improving lines serving the ports of Paranagua and Sao Francisco do Sul. The government also plans to build short sections of new line to ...
